Integrated Planning in SAP BW Tutorial

Do you ever wonder what the difference is between a Key Figure Model and an “Account Model”? As providers of SAP BW integrated planning consulting, we thought we would try to help you understand the key concepts.

SAP Business Intelligence Customer

If you are an SAP Business Intelligence Customer or SAP IBP consultant who works via a SAP Partner, this is an important concept you will have to both know and be able to model within the SAP Business Warehouse Integrated Planning system.

Briefly, a Key Figure Model contains the key figures in a data record, and an account model contains a characteristic, such as Sales Price, in the model.

Integrated Planning

In the diagram above you get an idea of what the two different approaches look like from a conceptual standpoint.

Integrated Planning Approaches in SAP

Each approach has advantages and disadvantages:

  • Key Figure Model provides more granularity if needed but requires redesign when you need to add new figures.

  • Account Model provides less granularity but doesn't require redesign each time you want to add a new characteristic.
