Position Profile for Power Systems VPI Service Engineer
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client’s Service Engineering’s mission is to minimize coverage costs to Client and to minimize customer downtime.   During Value Package Introduction (VPI) projects, Service accomplishes this mission by being accountable to deliver Serviceability and Diagnostic strategies to enable Aftermarket Parts stocking, Service Literature, Service Training, Tooling, Warranty administration, Support Channel Readiness and increased Early Life Product Support.  Service does this by planning, developing and validating these deliverables within cross-functional VPI teams delivering the overall project objectives.

 

The Power Systems VPI Service Engineer will be accountable to deliver the Service Deliverables listed above for new Client product offerings.  This is a challenging position with a broad spectrum of functional exposure to various Client entities, including Marketing, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and the Field Organization.  Duties include:

 

  • Participate in a team environment to deliver the specific customer care sections of VPI contracts (quality, schedule, resources).   
  • Provide product serviceability requirements to concurrent engineering design groups via technical profiles.
  • Lead the service engineering input into product design and architecture decisions.  Analyze options from a Service perspective.
  • Ensure diagnostic/prognostic capability is implemented to minimize customer downtime and maximize equipment utilization.
  • Protect the implementation of the Service Engineering strategies and architecture within the product design.
  • Ensure designs protect the profitability of the product over its entire life cycle.
  • Support Field Testing (Design Validation) of power systems by providing daily technical support, generating progress reports, providing on-site technical investigation for all failures.
  • Support investigation and resolution of technical issues during initial launch of the VPI product.
  • Be the Voice of the Customer to the Power Systems team for end user, distribution support network for support processes (tools, publications, etc.) aftermarket parts, cost of ownership (in and out of warranty).
  • Be the Voice of the Business/Strategy.

SKILLS - FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL:

  • BS or MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and/or Engineering related field
  • Experience with service or aftermarket support of a major automotive component/system
  • Experience with automotive hybrid engine systems and related components
  • Experience in New Product Introduction processes
  • Fluent in English

SKILLS - QUALITY/IMPROVEMENT:

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma Process, belt certification desired
  • Ability to solve ambiguous, complex problems systematically, using data based problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to be innovative and develop new processes in response to solutions found during problem solving.
  • General understanding of engineering analysis tools, statistical methods, and project management tools

SKILLS - TEAMWORK:

  • Experience with working in multi-regional, cross functional teams.  Respects, highlights, supports and leverages diversity.
  • Flexibility to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of people (Product Engineering, Field Service Personnel, End Customers, Warranty, Applications Engineering, Purchasing, Aftermarket, etc.)

SKILLS - LEADERSHIP:

  • Experience in leading and motivating cross-functional teams

TRAVEL REQUIRED (%):

  • 20% domestic and international travel to China.  Candidate must be free and clear to travel.
