If you can find the TQM video of Ford vs Mazda doing an air gauge measurement on transmission gears, you will know how bad things were. Basically, we were so far behind, our gauges couldn't even measure tolerances that Mazda was already measuring and exceeding.

My own experience was that of everything we were producing in the late 1980s in the SA-ALC depot, 62% was defective! We have came a long ways, but so has everybody else.
