SAP Industry Go-to-Market

In my previous blog, I talked a bit about how SAP has an Industry Focused Solution Product Suite and how you can use the SAP Solution Map Composer (now replaced by the SAP Solution Explorer) to explore existing SAP Industry Solutions as well as compose SAP specific industry solution map tailored specifically for your business

Set Scope Based On Industry Solution Map

But then what?  Once you have your SAP Industry Solution map composed, you can use it to set your initial scope in the Solution Map Composer!  This is an often-overlooked step in your SAP Best Practice implementation process and when skipped, means that the knowledge captured in your specific solution map such as the DFPS solution map, shown below, is lost!

My recommendation:

Put these steps in your SOW (Statement of Work)!  In fact, include your tailored SAP Industry Solution Map in the SOW and, as well, ask to participate in the completion of the Sales-to-Consulting transition checklist

This is simply a document that is used to ensure that your consulting team has received copies of everything that took place during the Discovery Phase and pre-sales process and that all assumptions are documented.

Select Relevant SAP Industry Best Practices

Besides building the blueprint from the SAP Industry Solution Map, part of your sales process should include the selection of the relevant SAP Best Practices relevant to your industry, available here, http://help.sap.com/.

In those few cases where there are no Best Practices for your Industry, you can still use foundational Best Practices, which cover most common scenarios encountered in most businesses.

Use the Industry Solution Composer

In addition to the Solution Map Composer for your Industry, using it to build your initial blueprint in the Solution Manager and employing SAP’s Best Practices, you will need to have a solid business case to green light your SAP project and ensure it is successful.

Value Management Methodology

Fortunately, SAP, as part of its Value Management methodology provides the Value Lifecycle Manager online tool.  It is both a sales tool, in that it can be used to make your case from the sales perspective and a business case builder tool for ensuring your SAP project is aligned with your business goals

Make Use of Value Engineering Principles

It is available to SAP customers and prospects under the tutelage of SAP Value Engineers and certain partners.  If you have an interest in benchmarking, you can participate in SAP’s benchmarking program here, https://valuemanagement.sap.com/#.

If, on the other hand, you need additional information about the availability of specific SAP Industry Solutions, then go here.
