Do You Know All of the SAP Modules?
No matter where you are at in your SAP journey, whether just thinking about SAP, in the pre-sales stage, the implementation stage, or the continuous business improvement stage, you probably don’t know all the different SAP modules.
Know Your SAP Functional Modules and they can support your Industry/business solutions, to for, instance do multi channel marketing campaigns within the Retail environment.
How could you?
Unless you are a trained SAP consultant with years of experience, and have an inordinate amount of curiosity, it is unlikely you have knowledge of every SAP module.
My View of SAP Modules
SAP Industry Solutions
This is mostly because SAP sells Industry Solutions, and rebrands them with both the industry speak of that market, say Aerospace & Defense (for which they sell the DFPS (Defense Forces, Public Security) solution which doesn’t even have the same organizational unit structure as any of the other SAP ERP based industry solutions) as well as specific technical functionality.
Why You Must Know This
You might ask, why should I care what modules are in the box? If I did know, what benefit would it be to me?
Glad you asked:
- You know your business and to map your business process requirements to the available SAP modules, you need a tool, such as our SAP R/3 Mindmap, that can quickly show you what SAP modules exist.
- Your SAP team, most likely from a System Integrator, such as SAP BW Consulting, Inc. or SAP itself, will know SAP but not necessarily your business, even if you have a very thorough and extensive RFP.
- You will need a solution architect (of both your business and SAP) to craft your solution, and no matter how much they know, they may not know a solution exist within the SAP modules.
This last point is critical.
SAP Marketing and Sales Modules
Let us say you are an industry that employs multi-channel marketing, such as retail. SAP CRM is a very powerful system, but you may need capabilities that go well beyond SAP CRM to truly execute a Strategic and Tactical Marketing Plan.
Synthesize Various Solution Components for Better ROI
A solution architecture that both leverages the capability of SAP CRM, SAP BW and a third party multi channel marketing platform would probably yield a higher marketing ROI than a strictly stand-alone SAP CRM – BW combo.
Industry Principal Plays a Key Role
This is why you may need the services of someone with the title Industry Principal. These are specialist who DO know the complete end-to-end Industry Solution footprint of SAP and can advise you on you what can, can’t and should or shouldn’t do with the existing SAP Modules, such as SAP HCM.
Integrate 3rd Party Solutions
Greater Process Capability and Flexibility
They can also help you effectively integrate 3rd party solutions, to, for example, deliver multi channel marketing campaigns and measure the ROI.
