Job Summary

Responsible for formulating corporate tax policy to ensure compliance with all international, federal, and state tax laws, and for developing and implementing tax strategies to minimize corporate tax expense.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for managing the overall tax reporting work of the department, and providing assistance in minimizing the tax costs of proposed transactions by identifying favorable methods of reporting the facts, and by formulating the necessary action plans.


Reviews tax returns and related reports to ensure compliance with all international, federal, state, and local tax statutes and regulations by properly interpreting tax laws to minimize tax liability.


Directs research efforts to establish company compliance with applicable tax laws.

Suggests alternate approaches to lessen tax liabilities.

Supervises the preparation and consolidation of all U.S. federal, state, and international income tax returns, working papers, and studies to ensure proper determination and reporting of corporate income tax in each jurisdiction.


Determines and controls estimated income tax payments to maximize return on assets.


Organizes and supervises the preparation of responses to tax agency audit requests for information in a timely and accurate manner; researches and defends positions taken on the company’s returns; recommends and prepares protests to disputed audit issues to ensure that additional tax assessments are minimized.

Monitors and analyzes proposed and newly enacted U.S. federal and foreign tax legislation, regulations, and court cases to ensure that adequate procedures are in place to minimize and accurately report the company’s income taxes.


Assists in tax planning by preparing analyses of past and proposed transactions with the purpose of presenting alternatives and/or a recommendation for reducing tax expense.


Recommends the reference of tax matters to outside counsel when appropriate and coordinates the company’s efforts in support of work done by outside counsel.

 

Expected Areas of Competence

Possess a strong understanding of tax principles, as well as a good understanding of basic accounting principles. 
Possesses good computer skills and should be proficient in spreadsheet, word and tax preparation applications such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and InSource CS. 


In addition, strong analytical, interpersonal and resource management skills are required.

Education/Experience Requirements

Possess an undergraduate degree in accounting; a post-graduate degree in business, tax or law and CPA certification is preferred. Typically has 10 or more years of significant tax experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
